It Means Fire In Spanish
Is Rock ‘N Roll a text book subject? Can it really be learned and taught like Math, English, or Science? Or is Rock ‘N Roll something that needs to be in your blood? Well, if you ask members of the band “El Fuego”, they would probably say both. This is coming from the fact that the entire band met at the Paul Green’s School of Rock Music All Stars.
El Fuego (which means fire in Spanish) is an underground rock band composed of Joe “Reno” (Lead Singer and Lead Guitar), Terry Foley (Guitar and Vocals), Stevie Roberts (Keyboard and Vocals), Joe Cummings (Drums), and Will Wright (Bass). Yes, the entire band is all School of Rock Alumni. In fact, Joe “Reno” (real name: Joe Randazzo) teaches at Paul Green’s School of Rock Music’s Cherry Hill, New Jersey branch. In fact, Reno was even featured in the 2005 documentary “Rock School” from A&E IndieFilms.
It is safe to say that Joe Randazzo a.k.a. Joe Reno is a musical genius. Being the main lyricist for the band, he adds the key ingredients to the masterpieces known as El Fuego’s music. Next, he adds in some of his own soothing guitar sounds. After that, add a dash of Joe Cummings’ slamming drum solos. Then, a touch of Will Wright’s gentle bass beats, sprinkle in Stevie Roberts’ lovely keyboarding skills and Terry Foley’s rockin’ guitar. Top it all off with the amazing sounds of the voices of Reno, Terry, and Stevie.
El Fuego has a great line-up of songs. “Turn Blue”, which will be made into a music video this summer, is a strong and controversial song. As well as many of their other songs. Like “Bishop”, which was inspired by Reno when he got caught smoking marijuana by a police officer. You will definitely get strong emotions from what will most likely be their hit song, “The Guardian”. There is no doubt that the song “Try Your Hardest” will inspire you to fulfill all your childhood dreams. I myself am expecting to hear it in “Rocky 7”, and knowing Sylvester Stallone that might happen.
A live performance for El Fuego is an ultimate experience. Not only are their musical skills fantastic, but visually El Fuego is an amazing band. You can see the passion in Joe Cummings’ face as he slams away at the drums. Will Wright just seems lost in his own world. Stevie Roberts is just absolutely stunning. Lastly, Joe Reno is all over the place. Reno is a fantastic entertainer. I haven’t seen a musician that entertaining on stage since Billy Idol. He is filled with so much energy and enthusiasm. He is also very personable to the crowd. He has says things like, “Is it hot in here, or is it just you?” If you listen to songs like “Try Your Hardest”, you think that the band El Fuego is a group of happy sappy people. But seeing them live in person, you will realize that they are just as genuine and pissed off as the rest of us.
El Fuego will be performing at El Bar in Philadelphia on June 7th. (Seriously, that is not a wordplay joke.) Next, El Fuego will be playing at Fifth Stone Studios, also in Philadelphia, on June 22nd. After that, they will be playing at the 2nd Annual School of Rock Music Festival at Penn’s Landing. The headlining artists for that event are: Less Than Jake, Drop Kick Murphy, Hold Steady, and Devo. It is a three day event which consists of June 27th, 28th, and 29th. They are also working on a three part suite, which is said to be pretty awesome.
El Fuego is an amazing band, and they are going places fast. Once hearing their music you, like myself, will get immediately hooked. You will be saying, “El Fuego es muy fantastico!”
