Thinking Vinyl? Think Sub Pop and Jagjaguwar

Submitted by admin on November 14, 2008 – 5:34 amNo Comment

Many music-lovers’ wish lists start with some sort of paraphernalia – signed Radiohead posters, iTunes Gift Cards, show tickets. This year, vinyl is the answer and Sub Pop and Jagjaguwar are a few of the many encouraging places to find quality records without using your credit card too heavily.

Whether you want a single, EP or full-length album, these sites are a fantastic stop for vinyl due to their well-preserved position in the user-friendly music market. What does this mean? Instead of heading to Warner Bros. Record Store and paying $30+ for a record, you could get the two LPs for Fleet Foxes’ self-titled album for $14.

Recently, Sub Pop announced they will only be going to vinyl with their singles for the rest of 2008. Among those singles they just released includes: CSS “Move” (Remix 12″), No Age “Teen Creeps (7″) and Low “Santa’s Coming Over” (7″).

Vinyl isn’t always better, so before you buy, check for feedback on the album you are interested in. We have a list of recommended vinyl from Sub Pop and Jagjaguwar listed below. If you know of any other places to get quality indie vinyl for cheap, please comment.

Even if you aren’t interested in vinyl, Sub Pop and Jagjaguwar provide mp3s to most of the albums they help release.

Blitzen Trapper – “Cool Love #1″ ($3.75)
Low – “Santa’s Coming Over” ($5.75)

Sub Pop full-length albums

The Album Leaf – Into the Blue Again ($10)
The Helio Sequence – Keep Your Eyes Ahead ($12)
Wolf Parade – At Mount Zoomer ($12)
