Cookie-cutter songs and bands aren’t what we focus on here, so when we saw this week’s releasing groups we saw the influences of other artists, but we also saw some real talent waiting to be unearthed.

For Aqualung fans, Bad Veins (s/t) and Wheat (White Ink Black Ink) are worth checking out as one group has been around for just a little while (Bad Veins) and the other is well-established.  The Icelandic duo of Jonsi and Alex might remind some of Sigur Ros with their group Riceboy Sleeps (s/t), yet the spaciousness of this album does differ.

Sean Bones verges on West Coast jam music with Rings despite being a Brooklyn-based band while  The Fiery Furnaces really can’t be labeled since it is experimental, so check our their new album I’m Going Away and let us know what you think.

If you enjoy hearing some alternative covers from the ’90s, Four Year Strong’s Explains it All album catches a bunch of these hits with a punk upturn.  Enjoy the week of new music!
