Pela Update And Album News
2007’s Anytown Graffiti from Pela knocked the socks off of us and since then our expectations for the Brooklyn-based ensemble seem somewhat unrealistic. After reading an interview with lead man Billy McCarthy by Kutztown University’s “Never Mind the Mainstream” radio duo, we thought we would try to elaborate and spread the news on what the group is up to.
Pela, who manages a Bruce Springsteen with a Pixies-punk style, are looking to release an album this summer, although they would like a label and a longer relationship than what Great Society provided. Furthermore, many of the songs projected to be on the new album have already been played live, including the songs “Philadelphia” and “Augustine” from the videos below.
In our Top 20 Artists To Look Forward To In 2009 post, we mentioned many of the incidents that sidetracked the group’s tour dates, but 2009 seems to have them moving around freely as they have already played across the country including: Jersey’s Stone Pony, Towson’s Recher Theater and Seattles’ KEXP studio and Capitol Hill Block Party.
