Editors’ ‘In This Light And On This Evening’ Finally Here
Shame on us for not listing this on our October13th list of New Releases this week, but sometimes you have to save the best for last…
Now with two platinum-selling records under their belt with The Back Room and An End Has A Start, the convoluded lyrics behind frontman Tom Smith are once again back, in rarer form, this time with In This Light and On This Evening.
As most Editors fans may already have heard, the album carries sounds compared to many 80s bands such as Joy Division, New Order and Depeche Mode. Whether moving towards electonica proved to be Editors’ next obvious step or not, they are progressing like all bands whose fanbase has thrived off of similar sounding songs and creating music that fits our new and ever-evolving standard.

Smith’s premonition of a ‘suprise‘ has even been lathered to the point where many critics from the UK suggest this could be their best yet. Lofty praises here considering their resume. But Editors have not strayed from their old sound. Tom Smith says of the band’s new work:
“It is very different from previous Editors records, there are things it has in common with a couple of songs from the first album”
“It sounds like us trying to tame these machines and hopefully it doesn’t sound clinical and emotionless like a lot of electronic records do. Hopefully it’s warm and breathing.”
Smith’s vocals certainly do accompany his new Depeche-styled electronica like that of sail to the wind, but is it worth of such praise? Could this be their best yet? As we continue to spin this one a few more times before we pass judgement, what do you think of their latest album?
