Maps' James Chapman

Lots to talk about this week as a few artists go solo, a few stay solo and the rest simply made a new album.  Let’s dig in, shall we?

First and most importantly this week Maps is out with Turning the Mind, a trippy electro album to the highest degree.  James Chapman’s sole work on his latest sounds good if not better than his debut, bedroom produced album We Can Create.  We highly recommend checking this one out.

Solo artists this week include Julian Casablancas, the well-loved Strokes frontman whose solo album Phrazes For The Young marks the first material from any The Strokes for quite some time, albeit being a solo effort.  Also going stag this week is Alec Ounsworth from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah with is album Mo BeautyJay Farrar and Ben Gibbard combined on the One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur album, which accompanies a film.  Check out more hereSufjan Stevens finishes out the list of solo artists this week.

A band who has been long in the pop-punk biz is Cartel.  The smooth transitioning vocals of Will Pugh make Cartel an easily likable band and so does their latest album, Cycles, which we can give a thumbs up after one listen through.

Also notable this week are Russian Circles, Kings of Convenience, Atlas Sound and Spiral Stairs who all have something to offer… explore the new music this week and enjoy all it has to offer.
