While half of indie rock fans want to hear about them, the other half is probably still stick about hearing about their self-titled 2007 LP, and just about anything else tied to them.  Vampire Weekend has that effect on people – either you’re with them or against them.

A group so controversial can only create news as large as themselves.  As of yesterday, not only did the band announce their new album Contra will be released on 01/12/10 (01/11 for the UK), but they also threw in their first single for free named ‘Horchata’.

MP3: Vampire Weekend – Horchata

In case you were curious about Horchata, there are many variations of the drink stemming from its birthplace in Valencia, Spain all the way to Latin America.  Ezra Koenig says of the drink from a recent NME interview, ”It’s always been one of my favorite drinks.”

The tan and milky drink will be mark another mouthful for VW fans as the growing list of peculiar song names grows.   I’m sure we will hear more from these guys in the coming months.
