New Album Releases For Tuesday 3/1/2011

By on 03/01/2011 – 6:00 AM2 Comments

It’s everybody’s favorite time of the week – new music Tuesday!   This week, we have two Sub Pop artists duking it out for attention:  The Dum Dum Girls hail from California and according to Wikipedia, each have “Dum Dum” tattooed on their finger (they mean business).  Their counterparts are Papercuts, centered around singer/songwriter Jason Robert Quever.  Their 2007 album Can’t Go Bank got an 8.3 out of 10 from Pitchfork.

We posted a bit ago about Guitaro and today is the day they release their first album in six years – JJ’s Crystal Palace.  You can check out their entire album at their Bandcamp page. Don’t forget The Frail‘s Lasers Over Lovers EP today, too.

Also this week is the newly formed Oasis by singer Liam Gallagher, guitarist Gem Archer, and bassist Andy Bell.  The band’s new name is Beady Eye.  It doesn’t seem like their formula has much changed from their days of old, but why should it?  Fans of old Oasis will be sure to turn a keen ear to songs such as “The Roller”.

Lykke Li returns with Wounded Rhymes.  The Swedish singer’s songs have been passing through the remix filters like crazy, so keep an eye out for more from an artist we have kept a close rap on since her 2008 release of Youth Novels.

  • Rob says:

Just to clarify… Noel was not the frontman in Oasis (save for when Liam quit the band on tour a couple times and he had to take over). Noel just wrote all of the songs. He is why Oasis was so good and Beady Eye is so horrible!

  • Brendan says:

You’re absolutely correct – my mistake! Yes, it is important to note Noel was not the frontman but rather made the news quite a bit. I’ve read quite a few reviews about Beady Eye and the general consensus is the Oasis fans of old do not like them one bit. I’ve heard everything from claims they ripped off a few Beatles tunes to the fact that the song simply don’t go anywhere. Its quite controversial… Thanks for the note!
