Jack’ed In (Issue 4)
This week sees the latest addition to the tragic ‘27’ club, as Amy Winehouse sadly passed away. Now many will abhor her wild lifestyle; her dangerous drug fuelled binges and her self-destructive nature, but one cannot deny that the woman had pure talent. And although she had a largely distasteful personality (in my opinion at least), it is a tragedy in itself that a life has been lost; let alone the misfortune of losing such a musical talent.
In more cheerful news, this week has been brilliant for finding new music. I’ve had some great submissions to my dropbox, so keep these coming in. You can get your music heard by hitting me up in the following ways:
Twitter
Facebook
Soundcloud Dropbox
I’ve been spending my time mostly working on new tracks, writing blog posts and also planning my future. The time is nearing when I will no longer be a student; and I’ll have to venture into the big wide world and seek further employment. If only they paid people to play music and party… Oh wait. They do.
Onto the beats and bass…
Track Of The Week:
Calvin Harris – Feel So Close (Nero Remix)

I know Nero have had a heavy influence on many of my week’s tracks, but they are just smashing the scene at the moment. I’m lucky enough to be DJing with them in October when they begin their Live UK tour, and if they carry on producing like this I don’t see a reason why dubstep/drum & bass/heavy electro can’t be widely recognised by the mainstream and made far more accessible than it is now. They really are champions of the crossover, and long may they conquer the stone hearts and sceptical minds of the masses.
Constant Banger:
Blur – Song 2 (Micky Slim Remix)

A big fan of Indie music as it is, when I heard this remix I couldn’t believe my luck. A song that combines the catchy hook of the original with some massive wobbles and hard synths; it has the power to electrify a dance floor. If the mood is right, and you drop this track then believe me you will be worshipped. Micky Slim has enjoyed a relatively illustrious career, but personally this track is my highlight of his well-produced electro back catalogue.
Pure Filth:
Belzebass – Broken Symphony (Mr Wonk’s Green Mask Remix)

A deliciously filthy electro banger this week, it proves to be a nice tempo change from the ‘Pure Filth’ offerings of previous weeks. Mr Wonk is the artist behind this dirty track, a man of mystery concealed behind a ludicrous green mask. Whatever lies behind the green façade, no one can deny his meticulous and intelligent approach to production. The song is heavy, driven along by multiple synth sounds that some artists of higher acclaim would be proud to call their own. The structure is great, the build ups are spot on and all in all a thoroughly enjoyable tune. Great work, an artist to look out for in the future as he is currently working on a debut EP.
Unsigned Gem:
Aloe Blac – I Need A Dollar (Andy Tokyo Rave Remix)
Andy Tokyo has never been to Japan, but has instead under his belt a wealth of DJing accolades that many would be impressed by and in awe of. Andy is resident DJ for the UK Indie sensation that is Propaganda, and a veteran of many a large gig and festival performance. Personally, I owe a lot to Andy as he was a guiding light in my early days of DJing and indeed production; he is a man of whose opinion and advice I place in high regard. On a more poignant note, his productions are solid and he has a truly great ear for those filthy sounds, but this remix takes a more intelligent approach and is resonant of the dance floor destroyer that is Skream’s remix of ‘In For The Kill’. A truly great illustration of good song structure and production technique, watch out for future offerings from this man!
Bonus Track:
Jack XI – Glitch Code Transmission
Another track from my debut EP, entitled ‘Falling Through Ceilings’. The EP was named the day after I actually fell through the floor of my bathroom which was in the process of being renovated. I should watch more carefully where I place my feet in future! I’m working on new material, but do enjoy this!
Week 4 of Jack’ed In over, enjoy the tracks, and have a fantastic week!
