New Music Releases For Tuesday 8/2/2011

By on 08/02/2011 – 11:55 AMNo Comment

A week of albums from solo artists is upon us, and it’s mostly all worth checking out.  Daniela & Ben Spector (above) obviously come as a pair, yet names such as Jim Ward (At The Drive Thru/Sparta) and Spencer Krug’s Moonface (Wolf Parade) have an added flair to the typical singer/songwriter albums.

The husband and wife duo of Daniela & Beb Spector release Love Is today.  Daniela’s vocals carry a heavenly air while Ben’s electric expertise paces the debut album for the Israeli musicians.

Moonface, the solo project of Spencer Krug from Wolf Parade, comes months after the initial winter recordings.  This debut LP should sound as it is titled (Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped), much like his EP last year (Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums).

Several of our personal favorite solo artists this week includes Mat Kearney (pron. ‘Carney’) and Jim Ward.  Kearney’s Young Love album hits stores just as he announced a 40-city tour starting in September.   Heading out on his own again is Jim Ward, the former backup vocals/rhythm guitarist for At the Drive-In and the lead for Sparta.  His album Quiet in the Valley, On the Shores the End Begins marks his first full-length, yet he already has recorded three previous EPs and appeared on various compilations.

Lastly, we’re pretty up on Viva Brother who just stopped by Philly on July 14 and Jimmy Kimmel a week later.  The new album Famous First Words marks the debut from the UK group.  Enjoy the week in music!
