New Music Releases for Tuesday 10/25/2011

Who’s hands are those above – Chris Martin? DJ Cam? M. Ward?  Nope, it’s Marc Byrd from the duo of Hammock leading our indie list for the week, while larger names, such as Coldplay, Tom Waits and several others make for a lively treat.

Byrd and Andrew Thompson formed in 2004 as Hammock, which sends a shimmering shoegaze effort in mostly everything we have heard from them.  Their latest album Asleep in the Downlights could go any direction as the duo has mastered their expressive music to match their constantly-in-motion lives.

Of course Coldplay will be the most-bought album this week, so we didn’t lead with them, but we are undoubtedly thrilled to see another work from them.  Fans should really appreciate Mylo Xyloto since it has all of the songs on it instead of divided into two albums like Viva La Vida.  The group currently has a video for “Paradise” on their site.

A band sure to grab attention thanks to their remixability and fascinating ensemble, comes from England by the name of The Good Natured.  Think School of Seven Bells with a quicker tempo, more punk lead singer and then get the album Skeleton.  Try the Randomizer button on their site, too.

A can’t miss group we see popping up everywhere is California’s Surfer Blood.  While they have Tarot Classics launching, don’t be surprised if they end of all over the radio.  Check out their tour dates on their website as they tend to sell out.

Lastly, Mr. Gnome, The Beets, Deer Tick, Russian Circles and She & Him all have a place in our library, so enjoy discovering them and the rest of the new music this week.
