Song of the Week: We Are Serenades – Birds

Song of the Week: We Are Serenades – Birds

Perhaps they come across as too gleeful, but Sweden’s Adam Olenius (Shout Out Louds) and Markus Krunegard (Laasko) play as though their hearts cling to 80s drama pop, yet their lyrics are, well, cheery.  The duo known as We Are Serenades rely on this upbeat attitude throughout their debut Criminal Heaven, which released on April 17 off of Cherrytree and Interscope Records.

Violins, dual vocals, calming electric melodies and tracks that have the sun rising, birds flying and daydreaming all appear on the group’s album.  For those that know of Olenius from Shout Out Louds, imagine his vocals not being fuzzy or distorted like the shoegaze Shout Out Louds perfected.  While “Birds” stands out for me on the album, any of the other semi-experimental tracks deserve some spins.

The Swedish group will be touring in the US starting in May, making stops from Philadelphia out to Los Angeles.  For more on We Are Serenades and their upcoming tour, check out their website, Facebook and Twitter pages.  Their entire album can be streamed on Prefix Mag.
