Song of the Week: Giant Fang – Aqualung

Song of the Week: Giant Fang – Aqualung

This past Sunday, Giant Fang’s track “Aqualung” first appeared on BBC’s Radio One, and with the introduction of this unknown, I quickly found MUF’s song of the week.  Fully run by Glasgow’s Douglas Wilson, this track merges multiple, band-inspired instruments alongside his eager, memorable voice.

“Aqualung” is a subdued, rock ballad without the band and without the predictable hook.  It starts theatrical before taking off into a spaced-out, harmony-driven set of electric guitar chords and bringing-it-home drums.  Adding in a synthesized whirr, Wilson’s vocals carry this song along a dream-like path.  All in all, this solo artist’s song sets the stage for an exciting 2013.

“Aqualung” will be released as a single in February and as a teaser for Kingdom, which Wilson says should be out at the end of this year or the start of 2014.  Wilson teamed up with drummer Nestor Matthews (Sky Larkin) for this debut track.  For more on Giant Fang, check out his Facebook and Soundcloud pages.
