Song of the Week: Barbarossa – The Load

Song of the Week: Barbarossa – The Load

London’s James Mathé released “The Load” at the beginning of April with his moniker Barbarossa. This solo project thrives off of simplicity, using Mathé’s vocals to break the ambient backdrop of piano and drum machine claps.  Even better, the track is free.

This lead single for Barbarossa and the new union with Memphis Industries teems with a promising, yet sunken, tone.  At no point does it break into a pop refrain or hound you with repetitious lyrics, rather settling on an earnest set of vocals to capture the audience’s attention.

Barbarossa was recently touring with the likes of Polica and Junip, and currently is touring around Europe.  He will be in the States starting at the end of May, including stops in LA, Seattle, New York and Philadelphia.  ”The Load” can be downloaded for free from the Barbarossa website.  For more on this artist, check out his Facebook and Twitter pages.
